The Band

What would happen if you combined the head banging power of rock and the heart racing energy of punk? Whiplash! Yes, you might say that … but what if it was done with careful precision and immeasurable passion by three masters of their music? The answer is an explosively energetic sound created from three instrumental basics providing a foundation for profound lyrics that are delivered directly to your ears by none other than Seattle’s Something More Than Nothing! You will find it no coincidence that by the end of SMTN’s shows you will have experienced your inner rocker and will eagerly await another dose. So to get you by for a little longer let me tell you how such a powerful combination came to be.

Marcus Comer (the guitarist/lead vocals) and Scott Kincaid (the Drummer) have been friends since junior high and both participated in their school band. It was during high school, in Scott’s parent’s basement, when they started rocking out some tunes of their own. Although they didn’t know each other, Curtis Murchison (the phat bassist) also attended the same high school and played around in some garage bands of his own.

It wouldn’t be until 2002 when the trio would team up to help a friend record a single in his uncle’s home studio. It was through this mutual friend that they found the necessary combination that would be the beginning of SMTN.

With a dream in mind the guys set there first goal and set out to record a three track demo. Humbled yet very excited by the experience of recording their own music the band began to set new goals and continued forward. Living under one roof they could focus on aspects of the band whenever they needed. Although they had some differences, as roommates always do, there drive and determination to make the band succeed guided them as they learned to work and live together.

Their work began to pay off in December of 2003 when SMTN took the opportunity to play their first show at a community center on Mercer Island (Seattle, WA). Energized, and inspired by the positive response they received, the band began to write new music continuing to grow towards something more.

When SMTN decided they were ready, the group began to look for a studio and an engineer who could set their music in motion and help expand on their ideas. Only after weeks of intense research, interviews, and careful selection would SMTN find Jason Shavey at Synergy Productions in Redmond, Washington. Instantly the band was comfortable with Jason and his studio so they scheduled time to recorded their first EP “...Because 8 songs cost too much.” It wouldn’t be long after when SMTN would hit the Seattle rock scene with EP in hand.

Shortly after releasing their album SMTN became the featured artist for CyberPunkRadio.com airing an exclusive interview songs from their release “...Because 8 Songs Cost Too Much.” over an hour long block; SMTN remained the featured artist during the months of August and September of 2004.

SMTN used the momentum to book show after show in Seattle and the surrounding areas. While grabbing as much stage time as they could: SMTN studied their fellow Seattle bands, learning all they could, and began to expand their network. Continuing to write new material the band expanded their arsenal of songs while building on their skills and talents.

One year later, after performing at venues such as The Central Saloon, Studio Seven, The Fenix Underground, EMP’s Liquid Lounge, and El Corazón, to name a few, SMTN went back to Synergy Productions during the summer of 2005 to record their full length album ‘Better Left Unsaid.’ The band asked Jason to help them produce the album, to push their potential, be merciless, and help them take it to the next level. In working with Jason Shavey, SMTN has made a good friend and found a mentor to whom they look to for guidance, ideas, inspiration, and even a good laugh!

While recording their album ‘Better Left Unsaid’, SMTN took part in a battle hosted by Sugarlight Productions (now Gorilla Productions) at Studio Seven. SMTN won the first round and gave fans a more powerful performance in the second. Although falling short of the title in round 2, SMTN found their fan base was quickly growing every time they rocked the stage. It was during the second battle when it was clear that SMTN fans rock … and they rock hard!!!

Shortly after releasing ‘Better Left Unsaid’ SMTN made it onto 99.9 The Rock’s ‘Loud and Local’ show airing their track “Sometimes Isn’t Enough.”

In late summer of 2006 ‘Something More Than Nothing’ teamed up with Freedale Film’s O’Ryan Brody (Director) and Taylor Truett (Assistant Director) to shoot a music video for ‘Until I Wake’ off the album ‘Better Left Unsaid’.

In the months of January and February 2007 SMTN made it onto online radio station Hussieskunk.com and for eight plus weeks made the most played list moving their way up in number of plays.

SMTN continues to move forward supporting Seattle’s local music scene and independent bands through aggressive promotion, booking outstanding line-ups, and by encouraging their fans to support the local scene. In support of new music SMTN made a monetary donation to Hussieskunk.com, an online radio station devoted to supporting new punk music, so they could upgrade there streaming capability. With a growing local, nationwide, and international fan base, it is SMTN’s hopes to inspire those who experience their music by sharing strength and passion to work towards dreams, goals, and life aspirations.
